-Magadan Mission- Siberia-

While I was watching TV a while back, I happened to see a man talking about his work in Magadan, Russia. Since so much of “Jim’s Projects” work will be in Kazakhstan (also a former USSR Republic), I was instantly drawn to hear what he was saying. I learned that his name was “Father Mike”, and he ran a wonderful Mission in far eastern Siberia, located on the Sea of Okhotsk, north of Japan. In fact, it is not too far south of the Arctic Circle! A cold, harsh, but very beautiful part of the world, for sure. He was talking about helping young single mothers, and bringing some hope to their futures and to the futures of their babies. I immediately wanted to contact him about the possibility of his Mission doing some work in conjunction with “Jim’s Projects.”

And that is exactly what has happened!

With the help of Father Mike, Father Dave, and Father Milosh, we hope to formulate many “Projects” in the months and years to come, to help the young mothers of Magadan, and hopefully bring as much joy and optimism as possible back into as many lives as we can.Our first efforts will be to support a wonderful already existing program, called “Choose Life.”

 Go to www.archdioceseofanchorage.org

It is a parish program of the Nativity of Jesus Catholic Church in Magadan, that responds to the real needs of women who choose to give birth, rather than to abort the child. The program has been going on for over 5 years, and 8 children have already been born with their help. It provides moral, spiritual, and material help, so these young women can see a more positive future for themselves and their babies. This help is currently offered up to 3 years, and given to individuals according to their needs. The help ranges from medicine, to food, clothing, rent, and even education. If abortion is a tragedy, then each birth is a triumph! In Russia, for every 10 births, there are an average of 13 abortions.

We at “Jim’s Projects” think this is a very worthy cause, and one that we hope to support in every way that we can. If you would like to donate directly to help this wonderful program, donations can be sent to the Archdiocese of Anchorage, “Mission to Magadan Fund”, and all funds are then sent directly to helping the Mission in Siberia. Address: Mission to Magadan c/o Archdiocese of Anchorage, 225 Cordova Street, Anchorage , Alaska, 99501-2409 Telephone: 907-272-2554. Or go to www.archdioceseofanchorage.org (see stewardship and Mission to Magadan). Every penny you can send will be well spent! Helping a deserving young mother to keep and love her baby… what could possibly mean more in this world than that.
